One of the fastest and most effective ways to make your eyes look younger is through the use of makeup. When applied correctly, makeup can transform the way that your eyes look, making them appear brighter, more lifted, and more youthful. Below are some helpful eye makeup tips that will give you a younger, more refreshed appearance:
1. Don’t wear eyeliner on your lower lids.
When you are young, putting eyeliner on your lower lids can help define your eyes, making them look more dramatic. As you get older, however, accentuating the bottom part of your eye like that can drag your eyes down, making them look like they are sagging. To avoid this problem, only apply makeup to your upper lid. This will naturally lift your eyes, making them look more youthful.
2. Learn makeup tricks for hooded eyes.
As you get older, the skin above your eye starts to sag until it eventually hangs over your eyelid. This can make it so that you can’t see much (or any) of your eyelid when you are looking straight-on in the mirror. This is commonly referred to as having hooded eyes.
Some people have hooded eyes all their lives while others only develop hoods as they get older. If your eyes have just recently become hooded due to age, you may need to apply your makeup differently than you used to.
Instead of applying your eye shadow directly to your eyelid, you need to bring it up higher above your crease. Otherwise, you won’t be able to see it when your eyes are open. Close your eyes partway and locate where your crease should be. This is usually where your brow bone ends and your eyeball begins. Use a crease brush to apply a dark eye shadow shade along your crease, keeping it directly in the crease rather than pulling it down onto your lid.
Next, apply a light eyeshadow to your lid. Finish by using a darker eyeshadow shade to draw a backward number seven at the outer corner of your eye, between your crease and your brow bone. Blend everything to smooth out any harsh lines. Now, when you look in the mirror, you should be able to see your eye shadow and your eyelid should look a little bit lifted.
3. Curl your eyelashes.
As your eyes age, your eyelashes start to point downward rather than pointing up toward your eyebrows. You can counteract this effect by using an eyelash curler before applying your mascara. This simple trick can dramatically open up your eyes, making them look a lot younger.
4. Avoid heavy undereye concealer.
Even if you have dark circles under your eyes, don’t use heavy concealer. Applying too much concealer can leave your undereye area looking cakey and overdone. Instead, opt for a brightening product that is designed to reflect light to brighten the area under your eyes.
As you get older, using these eye makeup tips will help you continue looking your best so that you can feel great about your appearance.
